NO BLUES AT THE BLUES

On the 4 November, year 6 went to the Chelsea stadium on a tour. We took bus 28. Everybody was bursting to walk around the stadium. When we got there we met the tour guide. The first thing we did was take a tour in the Chelsea stadium.
There were lots of interesting facts. Do you know why Chelsea’s colour is blue? Cheslea is blue because a long time ago Chelsea had a Scotish manager and his favourite team was the Rangers, who wore blue and white striped kits, so he made Chelsea the same colour.
Also, we learned that it was a night in October 1954 that during a match between Chelsea vs Wolves they had their biggest number of fans-75,000.
When the stadium tour was over we went to the signing room were the manager signs new playthe field. Later, we took a bus to school. Everybody was so happy. That was our time at Chelsea. ers.
After we left the room, we went to have our lunch. It took no more then 30 minutes to eat.
After we had lunch, we met Michael Foreman, a famous illustrator for children’s books. He told us about his childhood. The book was called War Boy and it is all about him. After that, he told us about the books he had written and the one he is writing now. He promised he would draw a picture for us. The picture was so funny because in front of the class’s picture, he drew a pirate with a bird pooing on his head, the Titantic sinking and an octupus holding a person.
We also met Paul Canoville who was the first black Chelsea in the 1980s. He told us about the racism and discrimation that he faced on

Cakes and football

This term, for 6 Wednesdays, a group of students went to do activities at the Chelsea stadium. We were having tours around the stadium and playing games, and even did a maths test! Then the second to last week we got tickets to see Chelsea vs Wolves. 4 of us won a haiku poem competition and got to walk on the pitch at the beginning of the match. The overall score was 2 – 0 to .......... CHELSEA!!!! Malouda scored the first goal and Kalou with the finishing goal. Actually I’m quite fond of Chelsea myself. Jeff, our Chelsea hub instructor, gave us cakes during the match. Some of us were filmed to be on the Chelsea website: http://www.chelseafc.com/.

Mexico comes to visit

On Tuesday 12th October 2010 a lady and a man came to talk to us about Mexico. The lady was from Mexico but the man was from Britain. They chose a few children to dress up. There were so many costumes and resources we needed loads of people to dress up. They told us about how Mexico has changed since the Aztecs were alive. They told us all about how the families carried the babies, about the sungod and the earth god and that every boy in the family had a part of cleaning to do and they told us much, much more. They showed us musical instruments from the past and some children got to play them. Before playtime, some children dressed up and after playtime it was mainly about the instruments. I dressed up as a girl that was writing in a ancient book of pictures, Abubaker was dressed up as a boy who was a farmer and Sasha was dressed as a musician who was playing a very interesting instrument. Everyone had lots of fun!

School Journey

It was the day finally we were arriving at the Isle of Wight. First, we had to say bye to our mums and dads. I slept in the coach for the whole ride. My partner woke me up when we were going onto the ferry. We went to the top deck where it was extremely cold and windy. I was so eager to eat my lunch.
After I ate my lunch I took some pictures of the view. The ferry ride was finshed. It took us 1 hour to get to the house. Finally, we were there. Miss O’Sullivan told us our groups and our rooms.
We did rock pooling and caught a red eyed crab.
After was our big walk which took 7 hours. We got back and had a nice hot swim. We had a nice dinner and a delicious dessert. Our last activity was a campfire. We got home and went to bed. The day had arrived when we were leaving. I don’t remember anything because I slept for the whole journey back too! I was so glad to be back and see my Mum and Dad. I felt relieved. That was my school journey.

school journey

Last week we went on school journey. At first we had to say goodbye to our mums and dads and had to get on the coach. We finally got to the ferry and had lunch. We stood at the front on the top deck and it was incredibly windy. We got to the Isle of Wight and it was really hot. It took about an hour to get to the house and then a little walk.
When we got there we were put into groups to sleep with and then had a tour around the house. We had a practice of the fire alarm going off. We had to go a special way to get out. We had dinner and it was really nice.
We had an activity after dinner and it was very fun. We had face paint and there were two teams-red and blue. The game was called treasure hunt and we had cards that had numbers on them, and we would tag someone else that wasn't on our team, and the one who had the highest card took their card.
After everyone had twenty of the other players’ cards we each received a bit of a map and we had to put all of the pieces together correctly. When we had all of the map there was an x on it and then we had to go out and find the treasure. The person who finds the treasure first wins.
The next day was really fun because we went rock pooling and caught a really big red velvet crab. We got back for the next day and we went on a big walk which took 7 hours, but we learned about stuff like devils chimney.
On the final day and we had to pack up to get ready. But unfortunately we had missed the ferry, so we had to wait there for 2 hours and we had a hot chocolate. We finally arrived back at school. Exhausted!

Football team try-outs

On Tuesday 28th of September year 5 and 6 tried out for the football team. All the boys in year 6 wanted to try and all the boys in year 5 wanted to have a go, too. So, to be fair it was decided that the year 6 boys will be on the team this year and the year 5’s will wait until next year.
There were only 10 spaces so trying out was really competitive. There was a girls team and there were also only 10 spaces so they had to try out their best. There were a lot of schools for the boys to play against but unfortunately, the girls well... there was not as many because many schools don’t have girls’ teams. So, 10 boys from year 6 and 10 girls from year 5 and 6 were chosen for the one, the only, Avonmore Primary football team.
On the 8th October the year 6 boys have a football match against Melcombe Primary. Who knows? It might be good or bad. I’m definitely keeping my fingers crossed!

Sports Week Video

The whole school made an obstacle course to try out for sports week. For this task, Year 5 first got into groups and chose their equipment then they went to the KS2 playground and planned it out. They first drew it down on a piece of paper then the teacher put all of their ideas together then they swapped groups and tried each others different activities out. And in the morning they tried it out together. They all enjoyed it except some of them got confused. They used lots of quoits, hoops, cones, skipping ropes, balls, tennis balls, beanbags and flat cones. For the first activity, they had to throw a beanbag in a hoop and then jump into it. When they got to the last hoop they had to throw quoits onto cones then they had three hoops. After, they had to get a tennis ball into all of the hoops and then had to throw three quoits into a hoop. Next, they had to dribble a ball round the flat cones and then throw it into a up-side down flat cone. For the next activity, they had to skip ten times and dribble a ball through the cones and they had to shoot it into a hoop. For the last activity, the class had to dribble a ball with a hockey stick through the cones and get three beanbags and score them into each hoop. As a class they really enjoyed it.

Y5 trip to British Museum

On the 17Th June 2010 Year 5 went on a trip to the British museum . First we went downstairs and a lady talked to us about mummification. Then we filled in a little booklet about ancient Egyptian objects that were in the museum. We started on the 1st floor where all the statues were. Then we moved upstairs where all the Ancient Egyptian mummies were. We saw animal mummies, human mummies and baby mummies. The animal mummies were cat, birds, crocodiles, snakes and bulls. Year 5 enjoyed it so much.

Year 5’s last topic was about Mexico and we made maracas. First we had to design our maracas in our art books. Secondly we had to get a balloon and put wet tissue paper around it then we had to do three layers of papier mache and let it dry over half term. Then we sawed twenty five cm of a stick for the handle and put our names on it. Then we had to cut it open with a Stanley knife and put some different seeds in to make the sound. Some were too thin so they had to make it thicker. Then we painted it with one layer of paint for the background and let it dry. Finally we painted our design on to the maracas and let it dry.

Ancient Greek Day

Yesterday,Year 6 had an ancient Greek day. We had to dress up as ancient Greek people. Also the year 6 teachers had to dress up. We learned how to write in Latin and we drew pictures from ancient Greek stories. After,we drew our pictures we went over them using charcoal so it looks Greek. The class had cooked some Greek food so at the end of the day we got to try our food.

We made a berry cheesecake, Greek salad, houmous, tzatziki, dolmades and more.

Everyone seemed to enjoy the Greek food and it was a wonderful day.

Thursday 17 June 2010

On Tuesday 15th year six went to a Mosque in Regents Park.
The tour guide taught us all about Islam and what Muslims do in a Mosque.
When we had to go inside the prayer room we had to take our shoes and socks off.
As a sign of respect, we weren’t allowed to take any pictures or videos inside the Mosque. The tour guide told us all about why they have so many arched windows and why the ceiling was in a globe shape. The ceiling was a globe shape so that all the voices could echo and the windows were arched because if you put a coin on a flat piece of paper the paper would bend and if you put a coin on a piece of arched paper it would stay exactly the same therefore an arch window is much more stronger than a squared window. He also told us about why Muslims go to the Mosque and what they do there. In the end we all had alot of fun and enjoyed our time there.

On Thursday we had some visitors who performed a play about a boy called Arron that was run over. It was a true story which happend in 2004/2005. We did some activities and roll plays. They also told us to always make eye contact with the driver whenever we are crossing the road to make sure they are aware of us. We also learned about the different types of pedestrian crossings in London, such as the zebra, pelican, pegasus and puffin crossings. The workshop was organised by a Hammersmith & Fulham Theatre group.

Spring's here

Spring is here! It’s lovely and sunny and all the flowers are open and the trees have got blossoms on them. The playground is very colourful now! It might not be so hot now but it will hopefully get hotter. When it was hot is was really nice and the birds were singing and everybody was having a nice time playing in the sunshine. They were playing in the park and having an ice cream. Some children even had water fights because I did and it was very cold but I warmed up after a while.

On Thursday 12th Year 6 went to the Houses of Parliament. We learned about democracy and what you have to do to become MP. They showed us around the House of Commons, The Houses of Lords and where the Queen signs the bill. They also showed us the statues of the old prime ministers and we weren’t allowed to sit down on the chairs that the MPs sit down on. They also showed us how the MPs would debate topics that are important to the country in order to make laws. We finished the lovely afternoon by going to the park and having our lunch.

Year 5's trip to Chelsea Physic Garden

In year 5 we went to the Chelsea Physic Garden. We went on the tube to get there and walked the rest. We went into this classroom and the man told us things to do with plants. We then did some drawing in a booklet which had a chart. And then we went outside. We went in two different groups- one group went to put stuff on their sticky card and fill in the chart in their booklet and the other group learned about flowers somewhere else with a man, then we switched over.We had lunch outside and ran around for a bit. After we did that, we went back to the classroom and did some printing on clay with what we found outside. We went back outside to do some planting. Some people planted linseed, sweetcorn, peas and flowers. We then went back to the train and that was the end of our trip.

Miss Clement's Post

Well the continuing freezing weather has meant that the planting season has got off to a slow start. The daffodils are just about blooming but look out for the snow drops and crocuses around the big tree.

Children in the nursery and reception classes have been planting vegetables seeds which have been put in the greenhouse to keep the frost and cold off them. It may still be a bit cold for them to germinate so we all need to be patient.

About the weather

Over the past few days the weather has been pretty snowy and icy. Yesterday we went outside and had a big snowball fight with the whole school and got cold feet,we all had to put are shoes and socks on the radiator to get them dry. At lunch we made a tiny snowman. Today my dad was driving me to school and we slided two times it was a bit scary but fun as well. The teachers don't know if we are going to play outside or not because it is so slippery. Have fun in the snow and be careful.
