Imagine if in the world everything was the same. Would we all
like cake and all hate ice- cream? Would we all watch SpongeBob and never watch
Scooby Doo? The answer would be yes, but would we all want to? The bloggers
have been pondering about this mind boggling question. All of us decided that
we wouldn’t want to as it would mean no one would have fun. Everyone would be
bored if we were all boys, we were all Sikh and we all loved David Bowie’s music.
What makes people especially wonderful is our differences. And, this is
definitely seen at Avonmore! We celebrate our differences and appreciate each
other’s uniqueness. Coincidentally, today marks the 70th year anniversary
of the liberation of Auschwitz and so we thought that having a discussion on
diversity is very, very important for everyone so they have a moment to reflect
on how truly wonderful differences are!

Bike proficiency
Beginning the week of 19th
January a select group of people were able to participate in cycling
proficiency lessons. I was lucky enough
to take part in this. There were
approximately 5 students who participated in these sessions. In the first
lesson, we just stayed in the playground; however, during the rest of the week
we were on the road and came across different scenarios such as a roundabout
and coming across cars on narrow roads. The
instructors told us about the importance of staying away from the ‘door zone’
as a cyclist can get seriously injured by a driver opening the car door. We
learned about the importance of looking at street signs and lines on the road,
especially to see who has the right of way when travelling on the roads.
Happily, all of us passed the week’s sessions in flying colours and will be
receiving certificates for our learning. Ride safely!
Wasted
Recently, year 6 watched a performance about drugs. However, we weren't the only
audience members. We were joined by Larmenier and Sacred Heart students. We
were all a wonderful audience. We learned about all different types of drugs
and what effects they have on the body, brain and the community: the effects
didn't sound very nice, in fact, they sounded downright dangerous! The
performance was called “Wasted” and was educational in a fun way! I would love
to watch it again and share its important message.
A captive audience! |
