On Friday 8th
February 2013 Year 5 visited the William Morris Society. William Morris was an
English textile designer in the 19th century. First, we went to the downstairs
area in the house because people were living upstairs (like William Morris
was). So, first we had to spilt up into 2 groups- one was doing the stained
glass paintings and the other was doing silk paintings. I did silk paintings
first. There are positives and negatives about silk paintings. Let’s start with
the positives. The positives are that you get to use stencils to paint and/or
draw, and the negatives are that you cannot rub the pencils out. I think we did
a good job of making silk paintings. Before we did the stained glass windows we
had a chocolate cookie. Some people were absolutely crazy for the cookies!
After we ate the cookie we made stained glass windows. We had to follow the
outline of it so we could draw it like William Morris. We made our favourite
letter (or initials) on a transparent plastic paper and the outline was
underneath. Most people did the first letter of their name. After we made the
outline with rub-able pen we decorated it and the last thing we did was have
lunch. Then we returned to school.
