Florida

Avonmore is back at school, and spring has finally come! During the two weeks off, I escaped the wintery weather of London and went to Florida! The flight was about 8 hours 30 minutes, with delay. We arrived at Miami and drove down to West Palm Beach to my Grandparents’ house. We stayed at their house for a few days but later on in that week we took a 4 hour drive down to Key West. It was amazing there! On the second day, we went out on a ferry to a fort called Fort Jefferson. It was beautiful there!!! The fort was built because they thought that it would eventually be attacked. Luckily, it never was. So, instead of using it for that they turned it into a prison. Other activities I did include snorkelling, swimming and walking the island. It was a fantastic holiday!

How many birds can you see?

The New Garden in Avonmore

In the Avonmore garden, there are now flowers which are starting to bloom! From now on we need to look out for the spring flowers in the school garden. Daffodils and tulips have been blooming lately. However, because of the cold weather, not many flowers have been blooming. But they still look colourful in the school garden. A lot of children have been planting seeds in their classrooms. Some of the seeds are kept in the greenhouse to keep them warm while they germinate. When the weather outside gets warmer, young plants will start to grow. We should all look out for information about the ‘Big Plant Out’ where school families can donate flowers for children who can plant in the school garden!

Happy Easter

Holi

During this week the festival of Holi was celebrated by millions of Indian people. This celebration includes spraying colour at each other, praying and seeing friends for parties. Unfortunately, the bad weather in England stopped some of the celebrations happening because the weather was too cold. However, I was still able to enjoy seeing pictures of my friends’ and family’s celebrations in India!

Avonmore’s Eggcellent Egghibition!

To bring round the cheerful Easter spirit, students at Avonmore have been taking part in decorating eggs in the most creative ways possible to make a colourful display in the hall. Our pretty EGGhibition really brightens up the stage eggs in an EGGtraordinary way. That’s EGGsactly what we need!

Year 6’s trip to the Bank of England

On Thursday 14th March year 6 went to the Bank of England. We went on the Tube and got off at Monument and walked for a few minutes. Finally we got to the Bank of England. The doors were huge and they were really heavy for security reasons. When we went in there was a museum and it was enormous.  After we went to a room that was like a cinema. We met a man called Richard. He talked about what money is and how we use it.  We watched a few clips about how we use money and then Richard asked us a few questions. When that finished we went into the museum and I actually touched real gold!!!! After we had a booklet full of questions and when we answered them.  We came back to school with only the items in our pockets that we had left with and no extra coins! This trip was so fun!!!!!!

Also, someone came 3rd in breaststroke in the qualifiers and 5th in the finals. As well, another student came 2nd in breaststroke in the qualifiers as well in the finals. They came 3rd in Front Craw in the qualifiers. We are undefeated for 6 years.
