Last Day of 2011

On the last day of school before the Christmas holidays, we had a disco with our professional DJ: DJ Cotten! It was fantastic! All the curtains were closed and there was a real disco ball! The KS1 had one in the morning and KS2 had one in the afternoon. Everyone said they had a BLAST!! The songs were a very good choice and none of the children were upset.

In the morning they danced and danced with their friends jumping up and down enjoying the music. Their dancing was great! They were doing all kinds of dancing (street dancing, hip hop and conga.) After all the dancing they were up for a surprise: Santa Claus was coming to wish them a very Merry Christmas and give them special presents! The children couldn’t keep in their excitement when they heard that Santa Claus was coming to give them presents.Everyone had a great time and the children left with a smile on their faces.

In the afternoon the KS2 had a disco: we absolutely had an amazing time. There was a game of pegs when some people had pegs and had to peg someone without getting caught. Everybody loved it! The music choices were great. A major event happened when a horrible song came on. It was.........’Baby’ by Justin Bieber. Everyone jeered and covered their ears. It was a fantastic end to the last day of 2011 at Avonmore!

Welcome to 2012

Everybody is back from their Christmas holiday and into 2012. Some students and staff have made New Year’s resolutions. My resolution is to eat less sweets so I would be healthier and the dentist would like me more (because I will have less cavities!). Some other people have chosen to be nicer to their brother or sister. Miss Driscoll’s resolution is to not eat too much rubbish, whilst Miss Cotten’s is to exercise more. People in other countries celebrate New Year’s on different days. In Turkey, they celebrate on the same day but at a different time, whereas in China, they celebrate in February. Some countries celebrate in different ways and eat different food.

Goldilocks and the Three Bears

At Avonmore Primary School all the teachers and pupils are busy learning lines and making props for the Christmas production. Since the scripts went out it was just memorising, memorising and even more memorising. All of the school is nervous about the play because they’re not sure what will happen. The dress rehearsal is next week so it’s a rush to bring in costumes and make props such as: a tea cup, a television and changing scene signs. I have two parts: one part, I walk around holding a sign with a few fellow classmates: for my other part, I play Jack from Jack and Jill. No one wants to slip up on the night in front of parents and classmates. The play is hilarious with many dramas. All the parents want to see their children on the stage doing their best. I think the parts were chosen well after the auditions and the main characters are trying their best to put movement into their acting and are learning their lines well. But we had such little notice for the play and we have the least time to prepare as now changes are still being made and there’s a Christmas party so people have to bring in fizzy drinks, savoury party foods, and sweet party food so this year 6 has to learn their lines at home. There’s only about 1, 2 or 3 rehearsals left so all the children have to practise at home as well as school!

YEAR 5’S TRIP TO THE SCIENCE MUSUEM

On 18th of October year 5 went to the Science Museum to learn about space because it was our main topic. One big reason we wanted to go there is because we wanted to know how astronauts used the toilet up there with everything floating. We went there by train and nothing unusual happened, it took us about 25 minutes.
When we got there we were amazed to see all the things that the astronauts used, from there we walked to the cinema IMAX, we watched ‘fly me to the moon’ in 3D and whenever the flies came near us we tried to swat them which was very fun. Everybody thought the movie was brilliant, after the movie everyone was hungry and we thought it was lunch-time. But we had to listen to someone talk about space.
The person talked to us about space food, the first spacecraft to go to the moon and about the space toilets and she said ‘The astronauts had to wear space nappies and they could go to the toilet whenever they wanted but wearing the nappies was very uncomfortable. The woman talked to us about all these things and it lasted around half an hour.
It was finally lunch-time. We all walked to get our packed-lunches. From there we walked to the dining room and started gobbling up our food.
After that we got in our groups and explored the room about space for about 15 minutes.

Heroes and Heroines Day

On Friday the 21st of October all the children and teachers came in as their hero or heroine because it was national heroes’ day. The purpose of this day was to remember and support all the people who have done amazing things in their lives. Everybody in the school enjoyed the day and most of them brought in amazing costumes. There was a huge parade in the hall of all the costumes (teachers as well as children!). Everybody came out of the hall with smiles on their faces.
It wasn’t all fun and games; we had to do homework on our hero which included why they’re our hero. People came in as superheroes, suffragettes, Olympic athletes, famous people from the past, and people from films and soldiers.

A New Beginning

It has been 3 weeks since the new the new term began and we all have settled in our new classes. This is what the children said about classes:
Year 6
It’s good and at a higher level which is good and it’s a better level for everyone. Miss Mathews is quiet funny and makes the learning easier.

Year 5
Year 5 is good and has lots of fun things and activities to do so you don’t get bored. The teacher Miss Driscoll, is strict but very fair and helpful.

Year 4
It’s fun and the work is easy. Miss Cole is nice. We like her and she gives us easy work.

Year 3
I think it is kind of good and I think I will learn well .Our teacher (Mrs LeSage) is not strict and I like our teacher.
